As we step into May—Mental Health Awareness Month—I want to pause and remind you of something simple, yet deeply important:
You matter. Your feelings matter. Your healing matters.
Life doesn’t slow down just because we need a moment. Responsibilities continue, expectations remain, and sometimes we find ourselves pushing through emotions we haven’t even taken the time to understand. But this month, let’s do something different.
Let’s be intentional.
Be Aware of Your Feelings—All of Them
Not every day will feel good. Not every moment will feel light.
And that’s okay.
Give yourself permission to feel without judgment. Whether it’s joy, sadness, fear, anger, or uncertainty—your emotions are valid. They are signals, not weaknesses.
Don’t silence them.
Don’t rush past them.
Sit with them. Learn from them. Honor them.
There Is No Shame in How You Feel
So many of us were taught to “be strong,” to “hold it together,” to not let anyone see us struggle. But real strength is found in honesty.
There is no shame in having hard days.
There is no weakness in needing support.
There is no failure in feeling deeply.
Your story—every part of it—is worthy of compassion.
Find Your Safe Circle
Healing doesn’t have to happen alone.
Find people who:
- Listen without judgment
- Support without trying to fix everything
- Hold space for your truth
Your safe circle might be friends, family, a support group, or even one trusted person. What matters is that you feel seen, heard, and safe.
Community is a powerful part of healing.
Find Joy in the Little Things
Joy doesn’t always come in big, life-changing moments.
Sometimes it’s found in:
- The warmth of the sun on your face
- A quiet cup of coffee in the morning
- A song that speaks to your soul
- A genuine laugh
- A moment of peace in a busy day
Start noticing those small moments. Let them count. Let them matter.
Because they do.
Take Time to Just… Breathe
In the middle of everything—pause.
Take a deep breath.
Then another.
And another.
Let your shoulders relax.
Let your mind settle, even if just for a moment.
Breathing is something we do automatically, but when we do it intentionally, it becomes grounding… healing… restoring.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is simply be still.
A Gentle Reminder for This Month
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
You don’t have to carry everything at once.
You don’t have to pretend you’re okay when you’re not.
This month—and every month—choose to:
- Check in with yourself
- Extend yourself grace
- Prioritize your peace
As you move through this first week of May, I hope you remember this:
You are allowed to feel.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to heal—at your own pace.
Take care of your mind the same way you take care of everything else.
Because you deserve that kind of love, too.
